Bringing Abuse Out of the Shadows
Domestic violence and abuse often remain hidden in plain sight—even within faith communities. In this episode of Honest Christian Conversations, I speak with Stacey Womack, founder of an abuse recovery ministry, about a deeply important and often misunderstood issue affecting millions of women worldwide.
Stacey shares how God unexpectedly called her into abuse recovery work, leading to an international ministry that has served tens of thousands of women across multiple countries. Together, we confront the silence surrounding abuse in Christian spaces and explore how Scripture has sometimes been misused in ways that harm victims rather than protect them. Stacey offers a powerful reframing rooted in biblical truth: God never asks a person to endure violence for the sake of preserving a relationship.
This conversation also sheds light on the many forms abuse can take—emotional, psychological, financial, spiritual, and more—and why abuse is ultimately about control, not anger. Stacey explains how her ministry’s victim recovery programs remove barriers to healing and help women understand God’s heart for their safety, dignity, and worth. We also discuss pathways toward healing, accountability, and hope for both survivors and those willing to change.
