Living the Great Commission Beyond Comfort
The Great Commission is one of Jesus’ most explicit commands—yet many believers struggle to live it out in everyday life. In this episode of Honest Christian Conversations, I’m joined by Kari Hunnicutt, author of Dormant Faith, for an honest conversation about why sharing our faith feels so tricky—and why it matters more than ever.
Kari brings a unique perspective shaped by travel, motherhood, and lived faith. As a world traveler who didn’t allow having four children to limit her obedience to God’s call, she challenges the idea that faith is something we practice privately or only when it’s convenient. Her story invites listeners to consider how stepping outside our comfort zones—geographically, relationally, or spiritually—can awaken dormant faith and make us more effective witnesses.
This conversation explores the real barriers Christians face in fulfilling the Great Commission. Kari shares insights from a survey revealing that fear, feeling unprepared, inconvenience, and shame often keep believers silent. Yet Scripture never qualifies Jesus’ command with exceptions for discomfort or inadequacy. We talk about how faith doesn’t require perfection—only willingness—and how even mustard-seed faith is enough for God to work powerfully through us.
We also reflect on the parallels between travel and evangelism: navigating unfamiliar spaces, learning to embrace uncertainty, and trusting God in places where outcomes aren’t guaranteed. Kari’s openness about her children’s faith journeys—including seasons of questioning—models a posture of trust, patience, and authenticity rather than control. This episode gently reframes evangelism not as having all the answers, but as inviting others into an honest pursuit of truth alongside us.
🎧 Listen to the episode to be encouraged that living out the Great Commission starts with willingness, not readiness—and that God is faithful to equip those who take the first step.
