When Life Shatters—and God Still Makes a Way
How do you move forward when life shatters in a single moment?
For Jacke Rose, that question isn’t theoretical—it’s the heartbeat of her story. In this episode of Honest Christian Conversations, Jacke shares how unimaginable loss became the place where God met her most deeply and began writing a redemptive story she never could have imagined.
Jacke’s life changed forever when her eldest son, Randy—an Air Force serviceman—experienced a severe mental health crisis following intense military training. In a tragic moment of disassociation, Randy attacked his wife, children, and father-in-law before taking his own life. It is every parent’s worst nightmare—yet even in the midst of horror, God’s presence was undeniable. As Jacke’s daughter-in-law cried out to Jesus, every other family member survived. That moment became an anchor of grace that carried Jacke through the devastation that followed.
This conversation walks through the long aftermath of tragedy—raising grandchildren. At the same time, trauma and PTSD unfolded, learning to live with grief that Jacke describes as a “stowaway,” and eventually facing the collapse of her marriage as another layer of loss. Through it all, Jacke clung to God—sometimes with confidence, sometimes by a single thread—but always with honesty. That fragile thread of faith ultimately became the seed of a new calling.
Out of her deepest pain, Jacke founded Grieving Moms Finding Hope, a ministry created so no mother who has lost a child would ever have to grieve alone. Built on four pillars—Christ, Church, Community, and Compassionate Care—the ministry now serves women worldwide through workbooks, retreats, Zoom groups, and local gatherings. It’s a place where grief is acknowledged, stories are honored, and hope is gently restored.
Jacke also shares how writing her book, My Landslide and the Divine Digout, became part of her healing journey. Anchored in Isaiah 43:19, her story proclaims a hard-won truth: even in the wilderness of grief, God is still making a way.
